Cutting Down The Bushes

Welcome to Maintenance Monday! Hope all of you had a wonderful weekend. Ours was great! We worked on painting the side porch and cleaning up the right side of our yard. (You can read about our backyard Tree Cutting Adventure here.) Hopefully, we will be ready to landscape soon!

This is what the right side of our yard looked like last summer
when we purchased our house.

Last fall, we started clearing the bushes and trees.
And this is what the right side looked like when we left it, last fall.

With the trees and bushes cut down and the sun shining through,
the house was lighter and able to breathe!

We will share the work we accomplished this last weekend, next week. We're looking at our options and trying to decide what type of plantings we would like to do on this side. So, we won't have pics of landscaping yet. Work continues on the side porch; hopefully, we will have an update this week. Looking forward to seeing how it all turns out!

Moving Days

The days here have been quite hectic. But, I wanted to share with you a clever (I think genius) idea our son shared with us when we were packing up all of our items for our new home. We didn't want to waste space in the trailers since we had already made a couple of trips and had a couple more trips to make to complete our move.

So, our son showed us this trick.
One less box to pack and unpack, and no wasted space!

See! I told ya, GENIUS!

He put Hailey's food toys into the grocery cart and wrapped saran wrap around the cart. Amazingly simple!

Our Tree Cutting Adventure

Welcome to our first Maintenance Monday post! When we purchased our home last year, we knew, we had 4 dead pine trees in our backyard that needed to come down.

We thought the trees would be ok over winter. But with all of the storms we had during the spring, it was time to take care of the trees. We try to diy everything. So, of  course, we cut down the trees! Although, we would not have attempted this.....

We knew we could handle our own trees ourselves.

We cut them down in between 4th of July day and weekend festivities. So, it took a few days to cut them all down.

And as a bonus, not only has a major safety issue been solved,
our whole backyard has opened up!

Front Porch: Red, White, and Blue

As promised, here is our 4th of July front porch! This was the porch from our prior house. I am looking forward to decorating our new side porch and back deck in our new home. However, we are still unpacking and hoping to get to the fun stuff soon! Anyway, because the base of our decorating is neutral, transforming our everyday porch was, really, easy. All I needed to do was change out the pillows and flowers! (If you would like to see and read about our everyday porch, you will find it in our post Front Porch.)The navy blue solid and stripe pillows came from Target, and the flag pillows came from Pottery Barn. We purchased them a few years ago, so I'm not sure if they are still available. But, I have seen some great diy flag pillows on Pinterest! Hope all of you have a happy 4th of July!

Front Porch

We finished moving this past weekend and are still busy unpacking. Brice is already involved with his school soccer and basketball summer programs which means we are busy running to practices and games, too.  But, I wanted to share our front porch from the house we just moved from and will later share how we decorated it for the 4th of July. (Our new house has a side porch off our family room and a deck off our kitchen. I'm not sure if I will have them finished before the end of summer though.) When we purchased the furniture it was an inexpensive white set and came with some colorful, striped, pillows that just didn't fit what we had in mind for our porch. So, of course, we transformed the furniture with spray paint! We, then, purchased new, neutral, pillows to coordinate with the new paint and our house. I like to decorate with neutrals and change out the pillows, flowers, and candles for the seasons or holidays. The difference made was tremendous and we were so pleased with how the furniture turned out!
