Cleaning Up The Front Yard

Welcome to Maintenance Monday! We've moved onto the front yard cleanup. It seems to have been a really long month with all of the clean up going on around here. (You may like to catch up on our backyard Tree Cutting Adventure here.) (And, our right side yard Cutting Down The Bushes and Cleaning Up The Bushes). Almost ready for the fun stuff! Next week, I will post our left side yard which will lead us into our rock garden and side porch. YAY!

This is the published realtor picture before we purchased our house.

Last fall, we started cleaning up.

This past spring, Chris was able to dig and cut out the front yard bushes.

Leland's Fourth of July Events!

Welcome to Wandering Wednesday! Our next field trip took us to our hometown. We had moved about 15 years ago, so it was great to be able to enjoy the festivities and people we had not seen in a very long time. It was a beautiful day with perfect weather. We enjoyed Leland's Fourth of July events which began, on Wednesday, with a Steak Fry in the Park Dinner and a Battle of the Bands. Then on Thursday, the events included a parade, crafts and vendors, bike decorating contest, old time baseball, and many other activities. And, of course, the evening would not have been complete without Leland's spectacular fireworks!

Beautiful day for our beautiful hometown,
we hope all of you had a wonderful 4th of July!

Cleaning Up The Bushes

Welcome to Maintenance Monday! So many projects going on at the same time! We, of course, couldn't stick with, just, finishing the clean up of the bushes on the right side of the house (you may like to read about Cutting Down The Bushes). We, also, are working on the side porch, rock garden, backyard stump cleanup (you can read about Our Tree Cutting Adventure here), gutters, painting, closets..... The list goes on, and on, and on, and on, and on. And, of course, there are the everyday chores that need to be done too! It's becoming a little chaotic; so now that the right side of the house is cleaned up, we are focusing on two projects. The side porch and rock garden. Once those are done we will move on to the rest of the projects we have started, but are only half finished.

Here's a little refresher as to what the right side looked like
when we purchased our house, last summer.

And this is how we left it in the fall.

So, last weekend, after borrowing a skid steer.....

And after some digging.....

We were able to clean up what was left.

Hailey was impressed.

And this is how the right side looks now.

Can't wait to get to the landscaping!

Earlville's 150th Birthday!

Welcome to our first Wandering Wednesday! We only needed to step out our front door to wander on our first field trip. The town of Earlville was celebrating its 150th birthday! The four day celebration festivities in town included: a craft show, carriage rides, a parade, birthday cake in the park, and many other activities. Although it was a rainy week, there was plenty to enjoy!

Hailey was fascinated with the water fountain.

Dancing in the street.....

Earlville has its own newspaper.

Carriage rides.

Blackhawks win!

Earlville has its own drive-in movie theatre. Awesome!

Cutting Down The Bushes

Welcome to Maintenance Monday! Hope all of you had a wonderful weekend. Ours was great! We worked on painting the side porch and cleaning up the right side of our yard. (You can read about our backyard Tree Cutting Adventure here.) Hopefully, we will be ready to landscape soon!

This is what the right side of our yard looked like last summer
when we purchased our house.

Last fall, we started clearing the bushes and trees.
And this is what the right side looked like when we left it, last fall.

With the trees and bushes cut down and the sun shining through,
the house was lighter and able to breathe!

We will share the work we accomplished this last weekend, next week. We're looking at our options and trying to decide what type of plantings we would like to do on this side. So, we won't have pics of landscaping yet. Work continues on the side porch; hopefully, we will have an update this week. Looking forward to seeing how it all turns out!
